Yellowstone National Park Rent RV and Camp or Rent Car and Stay in Lodge.

We're planning a trip to Yellowstone with family next Summer(08). We're questionning if we should rent an RV and drive in, camp around, or simply fly in and rent a car, and rent hotel rooms? We're traveling with a family of 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 13-7). If we fly, we'd like to visit Yellowstone and the Gran Tetons. If we RN, then we want to visit Mount Rushmore on the drive west from Indiana. We're looking forward to spending some great times with the kids on a 2 week vacation from Indiana. We need suggestions on the best time to go, crowds, must see's, etc. Thanks!

I can't really help on your RV vs fly in question. I think much of the trip would be fairly boring and you might be able to better use the time by flying in. Also, only you know how your kids would be on a trip that long in an RV. Mine are older now but they wouldn't have liked it.

We flew into Jackson Hole for a trip to Yellowstone and Glacier. We spent a short time looking at the Tetons before heading North. We loved Yellowstone. We liked Glacier even more. We dropped the rental car in Seattle but you could return to Jackson or leave it someplace up north before driving back.

We put a fairly extensive trip report together and put it on our website. It might help you plan some of the trip. There's also a bunch of pictures with explanations.

I'm not sure you have a bad choice. Its a beautiful part of the country.

For time to visit: Yellowstone in June or July. Glacier not before mid July. Don't know about the Tetons or any of the other places since we didn't get to spend much time there.
