Hi, i will go to the 5 terre in October and i would like to know in which way it is better to do the walk : from Riomaggiore to Monterosso ore from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. Thanks

In my opinion it's better to start at Riomaggiore. That way, you get the easiest bit with the most tourists out of the way at the beginning, and when you finally arrive at Monterosso you will be going down the endless flight of stone stairs instead of up.

I would say the other way but I also agree with the first answer. My thought was get the hard part over first and go DOWN the stairs to Corniglia. Plus the views approaching Vernazza from Monterosso are unbelievable. We did it in 2 days not one and staying in Volstra one year,we took the hike all downhill to Corniglia. Much prettier then the path between Manarola and Corniglia which is often closed anyway. Enjoy it no matter how you do it and October should be awesome, I have been 3 times in November and once it was warm enough to swim even then.

In my humble opinion, I would recommend walking from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. As said before the views of Vernzaa coming from teh north are much better. Apart from that you can better take your time and enjoy the tough, but exciting parts and finally skip the easy parts than vice versa.

I once started with the easy part Via del'Amore, but must admit that I spent too much time there as I was very impressed. Then I went by train from Corniglia to Monterosso and walked the rest from north to south, realising that it is much better than Via del'Amore which is in fact a complete paved way.

Don't forget to bring proper walking shoes!

I would go from Riomaggiore to Monterosso for one simple reason:

that way you have the sun in your back and won't be blinded by the sun (which I hope you will have plenty of!)

i am martina and i live in vernazza.
a lot tourists start from Riomaggiore until Monterosso and for
me is the best because from Vernazza to Monterosso when you are near Monterosso you descend a lot and lot steps .
you can buy tiket for train (from levanto to la spezia );there are many type;
if buy 1 ticket for train for 24 hours you can take all local train in that day and you no buy ticket for path and the price is 5€ at ticket.
if you stay 3 days in the 5 terre you the ticket will be cheapness if you go in the paths.
if you stay 1 week there are ather cheapness.

I AM BACK FROM THE 5 TERRE !! IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLLL !!!

I LOVED IT !! FINALLY I WENT FROM MONTEROSSO TO RIOMAGGIORE !! AND IT IS THE BEST WAY ! Yes From Monterosso to Vernazza it is the hardest part of the walk but it was my favourite one with also Vernazza to Corniglia !! I will come back for sure !!! I was very lucky, the weather was great : 25 ° C in October, amazing !! Bye !!
