Playa del Carmen Travel Forum

Hi All,

We are going to Playa Del Carmen October 1-6th and I checked the weather and it says showers:(

Could someone tell me what kind of weather to expect?
If it will rain, does it rain the whole day or just couple hours or at all ?

Also, does anyone know good restaurants in Playa that are authentic Mexican food, not commercialized, possibly off the main tourist routes?

Try the quesadillas cart by the bus terminal, cheap, great and VERY typical :-) It's on Juarez and quinta avenida corner, it's a cart... fancy stuff no idea, I am always broke :-) but those quesadillas were GREAAAAAAAAAT :-)

For the weather question I'd consult one of 1,000,000 weather-websites on the internet like http://weather.yahoo.com/ in last week of september.

Not commercialized in PdC ... uhm ... that's going to get a little difficult, I bet. If you want authentic Mexican food, you should rather go to Merida (NW of the Yucatan). Then try quesadillas and everything that goes with it. The more you get off the beaten track the bigger the chance for typical food.

It says rain but my question was whether it's raining all the time consistently or only for several hours at a time.

If they said showers, then you probably don't have to worry much. This might include short afternoon shower and maybe a bit heavier rain during the night. At least that was my experience in the region :-)

Actually, when living in Merida, I could set my watch after the daily showers. Everybody was expecting them at a certain time (don't remember exactly when that was), and we could be sure it was over some short time later. The sun was shining again and it was hot as if there wasn't any rain. Well ... climate is definitely changing, though ... and it is not like that anymore.

Hi, we went to Playa in August/September this year and although the weather said showers we actually loved the weather. We would wake up early in the morning (we have two children) and would go out to the Reef resort which that the owner of the condo we had rented out informed us to use (he had a card that he leant out to us that allowed us to get into the resort and use facilities) we would go back to the condo for lunch and then a siesta. During our siesta there would be shower storms but they were greatly welcomed as it kind of cooled off for a few hours. They were sweet but short. we've been there when rainy, but it's a warm rain & usually short showers. We like paraiso beach club. rt. on beach. happy hr. at 3:00 great amberjack lightly breaded {delicious{ reasonable price. & I'm not much of a fish eater. we always put Skintastic on our ft. & lower legs when going to beach areas or little cantinas, it deters the fl==sand fleas!! it's on calle{st.}14norte just find 14th & walk toward beach. you may have to take 13th or 15th & cut over.
