| Antwerp | A day in antwerp Posted: Mon September 18, 2006 12:40 PM UTC
Hi
Im travelling to Antwerp as part of Easy Cruise. We basically have from 1pm to 2am to see the sights. Can anyone give some ideas as to how to best spend the day. Not really that bothered too much about museums + things mainly seeing things that are unique to antwerp, having a really nice meal then drinks in some nice bars before heading back to the lovely orange boat!! Any tips would be great! |

what day of the week you will be there?
Pity you exclude museums we have a very interesting one I would have recomended if only because it is unique in the world and is double Unesco protected `-) but you can spend a day time in Antwerp without having even time to visit one :) that is if you like sightseeing and having a drink. or two :) You could divide Antwerp in 4 parts: Central station; old city centre; the South and Het Eilandje (island) all 4 of them would be too much for a day. Coming in on a cruise you definitly will start at the old city centre. Plenty of cool pubs there and you might want to stroll along the new marina at Het Eilandje. There the restaurants are a bit less local and more exotic. although... my favorites in the area are Cabo Verde (closed on Wednesday) with life music; Amadeus: spare ribs and open all day and housed in a very nice location; diagonal Mie Katoen with fondue (meat or fish), closed on Wednesday there are more on my page and there will be more on Belgianchocolat's page as I think he goes out eating a lot `-) but you can make a search on the general restaurant tips, and you can see how all are appreciated and ranked and what prices might be ok to you. for pubs you might want to see at the nightlife tips? Muze has life jazz music (especially on Wednesday) Buster has life music as well on several days in the week (I haven't been there yet) Paters Vaetje will overwhelm you with the big amount of beer choice, as does, further away, the Kulminator (hardly to find a place during the weekends but during the week you might have a chance), I just don't know when it closes. 11th Commandment (Het Elfde Gebod) some place that, if not for a beer, you have to enter and look around; and the pub De Pelgrom housed in a Middeaval basement; baroque music and candle light, not for clostrophobic people and not too cheap. Or why not try a Belgian gin? in the Vagant? you can go searching now :) Have fun planning!
