Amritsar From Delhi Airport to Amritsar
Posted: Mon September 18, 2006 09:06 AM UTC
I'm due to land at Delhi Indira Ghandi Airport at midnight at the end of October.
From the airport I'd like to get to Amritsar as quicky as possible.
I've read that there are bus connections from the Indira Ghandi Airport to Amritsar, but there's lack of detailed information about it on the internet. I've only found that there is probably an indocanadian bus which is running after every two hrs and the price is 25.00 USD
Has anybody traveled from the Delhi Airport do Amritsar directly?

Hi,

The quickest way from Delhi to Amritsar is to fly. Air India, Indian, Jet Airways and Air India Express fly from Delhi to Amritsar from Indira Gandhi Intl Airport so you don't even have to change the terminal. Just check on the schedules because these are not daily flights...

On domestic airlines, you have an option for Air Deccan or Jet Airways.

I'm not sure about the Indo-Canadian Bus....

Just found info in the Indo-Canadian Bus... You can visit their website for schedules and can also book the ticket online.

Check: http://www.indocanadiantransport.com/

These are quite comfortable buses and you can book yourself on their website else call up for reservations both on domestic numbers and also on their international numbers.
Timings and all details are available on their site. Do log on for all info.

But sadly they do not have any service to Amritsar (as nothing is mentioned about Amritsar) Though i've seen many buses of Indo-Canadian in Amritsar - maybe they have different service from Amritsar Airport... You can call them to confirm if they have service to Amritsar...

In any case you can come over till Jalandhar...

Thanks for your help.
I've just sent a question to the Indocanadian Bus Company about travelling to Amritsar.
I've found on the internet that there are some more bus companies that service the route from the Delhi Airport to Amritsar but there's no information about schedules, terminales, etc.

These buses go pretty fast.. especially to amritsar and they take off about once a day.. Schedule.. I would say hit up your local indian travel agent.

I have had couple of bad stories as In these buses not going too far in town but amritsar.. you will be right at home since there is a lot of taxi service.

Fastest way to get there is to pre-arrange a private transportation. Generally a something like Tata Sumo or Safari type of vehicle is a good way to travel from delhi to punjab in general. This can run you at about 5000 INR atleast. However I still recommend those bus services. Indo Canadian bus is probably better than most other busses.

enjoy

Dear Guys,
I've received the answer from Indocanadian Bus Transport that the bus from the IGI Airport Delhi runs only to Jalandhar.
I'll try to contact Punjab Coach Service, which is enlisted on the website: http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/delhi.html - " An air-conditioned Coach service is available from the counter of Punjab Tourism, in the Arrival Hall at Terminal II. The coach runs between the Airport Terminal II and Amritsar via Karnal, Ambala, Rajpura, Ludhiana & Jullandhar. Cost: INR 550."
The next resonable option (from financial point of view) is an AirDeccan flight, but I've read so many bad news about the company that I don't know if it is a good decision.
Thanks for your hints.

Wow! you got me concerned with your negative comment about Air Deccan. Can you elaborate on that? I just bought a ticket from Kulu to Delhi to get back to the States. I am also trying to get to Amritsar from Delhi, but Air Deccan has no more seats for the date I need to go there. I was told by someone at indocanadian that Amritsar was "a good hour" from Jalandhar by car. From the map, it seems 50-60 km away. I am arriving in Delhi on Oct 8 and will take the indocanadian bus and then a cab to Amritsar.

A friend of mine has experienced an AirDeccan flight cancellation without earlier notice. A security guy at the airport gate told him that there was no flight.
No assistance or any help from the airline. Rebooking was not possible.
The second issues are delays - sometimes 5-6 hours.
But the price is a big adventage, the regular ticket (bought on the website) costs peanuts and AirDeccan doesn't diffrenciate fares for Indians citizens and non-Indian passport holders.
So it is up to you if to fly with AirDeccan or not.
Price is only sligtly highier than Indocanadian bus and the flight takes only 1h35min instead of 7-9 hours on the bus...
