Okay, just for a bit of fun I was wondering what your top recommendations would be for travel to do with the following subjects -

ADVENTURE TRAVEL:

ROMANTIC BREAK:

CULLINARY TRAVEL:

THE PERFECT CITY BREAK:

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK:

Give reasons along with your recommendations on why you chose that particular place. Mine are listed below.

ADVENTURE TRAVEL: - I would say South America (possibly Peru although I have never been there!). Trekking the Incas trail sounds like a real adventure to me or perhaps canoeing the Amazon in Brazil. I reckon that would be an experience!

ROMANTIC TRAVEL: Prague, this is the most romantic city I have ever been too (shame I was with my kiwi mate at the time!).

CULLINARY TRAVEL: It has to be Italy. I just love the food!

THE PERFECT CITY BREAK: I've heard that Krakow is well worth seeing.

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK: Mongolia perhaps?

ADVENTURE : Walking around as a blind person in New York.

ROMANTIC BREAK: Quebec City of course!! (Prague a close second). They are very similar cities, but Quebec, being a very important and strategic fort is place very high and on the side of the St-Lawrence, offering an unparalled view.

Cullinary travel : Quebec's eastern townships with all it's wines (and port) cheeses and fine restaurants serving local products

The Perfect City break : Montreal! It has all the entertainment you need in a tree filled environement, with old europe architecture and doesn't stink contrarily to all the other larger cities I've been to!

Off the beaten path: I don't know..never been there that much yet..
:P

It's not so yeasy to classify, but I would assume the following :
ADVENTURE TRAVEL: something like safari or rafting in waterfalls,, swimming across Niagara, for example
ROMANTIC BREAK: here there are so much to say... Paris, Budapest, Krakow, Brugge, Praga, St.Petersburg, Kyiv, and my other cities which are as nice as the listed ones
CULLINARY TRAVEL: suppose to be France and Italy, at least they arre world known in this regard
THE PERFECT CITY BREAK: I agree for Cote d'Azur
OFF THE BEATEN TRACK: Mongolia,, good idea :))
have fun

Mmmmh, you can have all that in Tallinn (Estonia).
It still is an ADVENTURE to go there. On nice evenings the viewing points on Toompea Hill are very ROMANTIC. There are plenty of restaurants in the Old Town (Vanalinn) for every taste (Italian, Thai, Caucasian, Medieval, Chinese...) that you can spent endless days with CULLINARY TRAVEL. In fact Tallinn is in summer a PERFECT CITY BREAK. And if you leave the touristic Old Town and go to the grey apartment-block suburbs you have OFF THE BEATEN TRACK travel.

adventure: diving under the ice on antarctica or hidrospeed on glacial rivers in Greenland

good eat: for me it has to be pasta con funghi porcini, tiramisu, profiteroles....so I guess Italy

romantic: cruise on a catamaran in pacific ocean (away from any tourists...something like Palmyra)

city break: NYC or Barcelona or Stockholm

off: Tierra del Fuego

ADVENTURE TRAVEL: Treking in the Andes, Himalayas, or any kewl mountain range for sure.... canoeing down the Amazon, Mekong, and countless of other interesting rivers... treking on route to an archeological ruin such as Ciudad Perdida in Colombia.... oh, and scuba diving in the deep blue sea :)

ROMANTIC BREAK: I agree, Prague is a really romantic city... just loved the castles... like a real fairytale of sorts :)

CULLINARY TRAVEL: China of course :). I loooovvvveeee chinese food... the dumplings, the noodles, the rice, the meat, Peking duck, Scandalian pancakes, coconut juice, etc. Italy and Mexico are both a close second :)... oh, and lets not forget the SEA and Indian cuisine as well :)

THE PERFECT CITY BREAK: I take it you mean a city to travel in right? Well, right now i'm attracted to St. Pete, Russia for it's history... haven't been there yet though.

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK: Tunguska, an area in Eastern Siberia where an ice meteor crashed and leveled a huge chunk of Siberian Taiga. Most of the expeditions to the region have been on a helicopter, but I think it will be nice to trek over there :)

Haha Horsecheck, I was just going to say that Tallinn fits in with all of them! :-))) Otherwise:
ADVENTURE: White water rafting in Victoria falls (Michael Palin broke a rib)
ROMANTIC: Positano/Sorrento or Santorini for that sea view and sunset plus good food.
CULINARY: Italy or Hungary...mmm...Hungarian pancakes.
CITY BREAK: Edinburgh, Tallinn or Budapest - food, fun and architecture
OFF THE BEATEN TRACK: Tristan da Cunha. No reason needed there I think?

For Adventury Travel; well not much my style, so i can not suggest much, but one of the must excursions i would like to do is travelling trough the morroco desert in 4x4 (maybe is not much adventure for all you, hehe but enough for me).

A Romantic Break: one of the places I wnat to go, Paris, but also I have to say that any place with the right company can be great :) A nice spanish place will be Granada, such a lovely atmosphere..... The Alhambra at night, the little streets of Albaicin ....

culinary Travel: hey of course no doubt.... SPAIN .... variety ... lovely food... good prices.... tapas.... wines.... atmospher.... What else can I ask? lol

The perfect city break: Well My favorite ones: Salamanca and Granada (sorry again Spain)

Off the beaten Track: the still not spoil coast of Almeria and CAdiz (Spain .... just in case lol)

ADVENTURE TRAVEL: I haven't been on anything of that kind since I became old and sedate (haha), but in my 20's I loved climbing the rock cliffs in West Virginia (Seneca Rocks in particular) back in my thinner days. I also found exploring the more remote parts of the Canadian Rockies pretty exciting.
ROMANTIC BREAK: Far from the milling crowd: at this time of year it would be deep in the brilliantly colored woods of the White Mountains in New Hampshire walking along a path, shuffling spicy-scented red and yellow leaves under our feet with a crystal-clear blue sky overhead.
CULLINARY TRAVEL: This would most definitely be New Orleans and Baton Rouge....the variety is there and the tastes are out of this world.
THE PERFECT CITY BREAK: Again, New Orleans.
OFF THE BEATEN TRACK: In my limited travel experiences.....plowing through thick brush to get to less-visited beaches on the Pacific coast in California to see the waves hit the rocks with immense force and spray, or scrambling along rocky ledges and tidepools of the Maine shoreline.

Adventure: White water rafting on the Snake River in Idaho.
Romantic: Paris (the French language, cafés, strolling along the Seine) or Kauai (unspoiled beaches, natural beauty, spirit of aloha)
Culinary: Belgium. Beer and chocolate -- what more could you want??
Perfect City Break: San Francisco. The GG Bridge, the bay, the cable cars, the restaurants
Off the Beaten Track: Canyon de Chelly in Arizona.

Oh, goodie! A GREAT question, Mark!
Adventure - Barbados (even with a map, you can get lost!)
Romantic - You *knew* I was going to say Bermuda
Cullinary - Salt Lake City, Utah (Go with me on this)
City Break - Savannah, Georgia (absolutely mesmerising)
Off the Beaten Track - Leuven, Belgium... (The landscapes are breathtaking).

Fun questions!

I'm not so interested in Adventure travel, but if I have to answer, perhaps trekking to Wahan (i'm not sure about spelling). I heard of this beautiful place in NE Afghanistan, very difficult to reach. Does anybody know about this place?

Romantic break: Tibet or Esfahan, Iran. The beauty of their culture and architecture make it all romantic!
Cullinary travel: Thailand, i love spicy food!
The perfect city break: beach close to my home.
and for off the beaten track, I say you can find it anywhere, you just have your eyes open.

Cheers
