| Aleppo | Istanbul to Allepo travel Posted: Wed September 13, 2006 02:40 AM UTC
I will be making my first trip to Syria and am wondering the best way to make it to Aleppo from Istanbul. Any feedback on the travel time of the sleeper train versus a bus would be appreciated. Any advice on the best way for an American to get a visa would als be great. Thanks for any help.

the best way and fastest is by bus take bus from Istanbul Otogar between 5-7pm to Anatakia (Hatay)it take about 14 hour and cost about 30$ and then at 1 or 5 PM there is bus from Antakia to Aleppo and it,s take about 2-4 hour it,s depend on the border and cost about 5-8$ , for the train there is only one route per week and take about 36 hour but ihavn,t good info on it best wishes

Hi,
about Bus yes it's better than train for time but it takes at leat 19 hours from Istanbul to Aleppo and it's up to 22 hours including crossing borders and changing buses at the Syrian-Turkish borders. As an American you should have applied for a Vis while you were at US,it will be hrad I guess to do from Turkey. Good Luck

I have done both but much prefer the train, slow sure but streching out on a bed with a book watching the Turksih countryside roll by is pretty relaxing if you dont have to be some where.
(Take food and drink) The man in seatsixtyone.com has all the answers about train travel. If you take the bus you can of course break your journey someplace on the way. John www.johnwreford.com
