Did this exist in the Bronze age, during Argaememnon and King Atreus' time? Where are those ruins?

Nafplio RE: Question about history

Sorry, I was asking about a specific photograph and it was posted to the general discussion board. Where do I find the Lion Gate and where was the coastal cliff fortress, is that now Palmidi - same thing or is it in Tiryns? This would have been the ancient Bronze age palace on the ocean with a harbor. Thanks!

I am afraid I don't quite understand your question, but I'll do my best. (Where is the pictures?)

Nafplio has been inhabited since the 3 millenium B.C. However, there are no ruins left in the city of the prehistoric and mycenaean periods. There is a story about Odysseus and Palamides, the king of Nafplio, during the Trojan war.

The Palamidi fortress dates from the Venetian period and is thus much "newer".

The Lion Gate is at Mikines (Mycenae). Mikines is the "home town" of King Atreus, father of Agamemnon and Menelaos, king of Sparta.

Tyrins has a beautiful mycenaean castle as well.

Thanks, I find it very strange that King Atreus, father of Menelaus, did not occupy a coastal palace in Nafplio for governance of trade before taking over Sparta and handing administration of the palace to Menelaus. Argamemnon and Menelaus both ruled Argos prior to the Trojan war. Isn't there a coastal palace near the Treasury of Atreus (or near Mycenae)? Which ancient coastal palace is closest to Mycenae?

Perhaps the better way to ask the question is: "What palace in Nafplio was occupied during the Bronze Age around 1250 - 1150 B.C.?

I think you may have answered my question in your reply: Tyrins is the Palace occupied by Menelaus - where he was born and Atreus lived before conquering Sparta...

The Atrides were not a seafaring people, contrary to Odysseus and his people from Ithaka.
Tyrins is not a coastal fortress.

When you say Nafplio, I have the impression you mean Argolis: Nafplio is a city, Argolis is the region.
Coastal fortresses in Argolis, near Tyrins and Nafplio, that already existed at that time: Lerna and Asine.
