Douglas Travel Forum

Will be staying in Douglas from 18th to 22nd September. There are 3 of us and we want to spend one day in Peel. Trains don't seem to go there and we don't travel well on buses! Are taxis readily available in both places and are they very expensive?

A taxi will be steep from Douglas to Peel.

A friend of mine was looking at getting a taxi from airport to Douglas and then back again (about the same distance as Douglas - Peel)- it turned out to be cheaper to hire a car for 24 hours!!

The buses really aren't that bad over here. They don't get too busy as long as you avoid travelling at either end of the school day (ie; 8.00am - 9.00am and 3.00pm - 4.00pm). They are pretty cheap and are generally clean and comfortable.

If you want to explore the island by public transport, buy the Island Explorer ticket - 12 pounds for one day, 24 pounds for three days - which allows unlimited travel for the specified period on the island's buses, trains and horse-drawn tram.
