| Perugia | Age groups at Universita per Stranieri Posted: Sat September 9, 2006 06:43 AM UTC
Hi - am thinking about doing the 3 month course next year. I get the impression that students are mostly early 20's. I'm 37 and have a lot of friends in their mid to late 20's but was wondering if anyone can tell me if I am likely to be the oldest person there.....hey, if Martin Sheen can do a BA at Dublin Uni at his age, I should be fine, right?

Hi,
You will do fine in Perugia, and you won't be the oldest student. The students are from all over the world and are extremely accepting of all nice people. You'll find that most of the younger European students speak at least 3 languages and are now studying Italian not only for the language but to experience the culture. Also, you will find them more interested and better schooled in the arts, geography and history of the area. You will find it refreshing and an excellent exprience. The school in Perugia is a little more intense, due to the fact that the credits are transferable to other Universities. Many of the students are taking classes to qualify for further study programs in Italy. The school is a little bit different from other language schools which do classes for the casual traveler or student who want to speak and or write Italian for pleasure or personal improvement. In addition, you might want to check into other immersion schools located in Florence,Siena,Rome,Lucca, etc. Buona Fortuna!!

You're not that old! There are lots of women and men attending various courses in Italy that are over 40 ore 45.
Good luck!

Thanks to all of you, it sounds like great experience. I already have 2 degrees so I have studied before but it will be different coming back to Uni as a more mature person after working for 10 years - hopefully just as much fun and I look forward to meeting a great range of people, and of course speaking italian! Thanks again. Riya

Hi :) your blog stood out as I too are in my thirties, 34 to be exact! I moved to Perugia in July this year to be with my Italain boyfriend. I am enrolling at the University soon so hopefully I can have a conversation with someone other than my boyfriend! I think the majority are young students but if it helps then there will be definitley one person the same age there, ME!
