Tampere Tampere in October

Hi there

My mother and I are going to tampere 5th October - 10th October.

I was just wondering if there will be much to do at this time of year in tampere, we're pretty active (we're 22 and 44) and enjoy all the usual shopping, walking and all the usual tourist type things! We know about the park and the observation towers, but what else can we get up to.

Is it worth taking a trip to turku, nokia or any other towns? We'd like to go to helsinki but feel we should maybe save it for another holiday, so that we have more than a few hours there.

Any ideas??

Thanks very much

Jenny

Tampere is nice and you can enjoy shopping, sightseeing and nightlife as well. There are good music clubs and bars there all around the city centre and distance walking usually.
However, as you stay for 5 days I am warmly recommending taking a day trip to Helsinki and Turku for the sightseeing, as you will find yourself repeating doing the same things in Tampere from the 2nd day.
Take a morning train and come back in the evening will be worthwhile to do unless you plan future dedicated visit to one of these cities.

Hello Jenny,

I completely agree with Gili and John. Tampere is less than two hours' train trip away from Helsinki. That means it's easy to catch the train here.
I have been to Tampere a few times, and it will surely have many interesting museums and exhibitions - as the old factories have been amde into museums. (It's surprisingly green town with many parks, and if the weather gets cooler, you may be able to enjoy the autumn colours, all the red, yellow and green at the same time).
regards and welcome to Finland,
Soili

Hi Jenny,

I think that Holiday Club Tampere Spa is absolutely worth visiting - at least a day visit if you are not staying overnight there. There are a tropically warm swimming pool, jacuzzis, a mineral pool, massaging waterfalls and water massage points there. There are also quite nice saunas there (separate saunas for men and women, only the steam room is mixed). For more details look at http://www.holidayclub.fi/portal/english/spa_hotels/holiday_club_tampere or http://www.holidayclub.fi , please.

I also recommend walking on Pispala Ridge dating back to the last Ice Age. There is a beautiful scenery and beautiful old wooden houses there. There are also many other nice walking routes in Tampere. And nice museums!

For more details about Tampere see http://groups.msn.com/FinlandTravelClub/tampere1.msnw , please. And more details about Finnish sauna at http://groups.msn.com/FinlandTravelClub/sauna.msnw .

Welcome to Finland!

:) Jim
