Como Train Tirano to St Moritz
Posted: Mon September 4, 2006 12:04 PM UTC
I have heard that you don't need to catch the Bernini Express to do this bit as all the trains go the same route through the mountains - has anyone got any information/advice about this. Also is it easy to do?

Follow this string for Die Baan and you will be able to access the timetable

No I haven't, although I have gone to St Moritz by car from Varenna on Lake Como. St moritz was disappointing in summer but I can well imagine things livening up in winter.

1) regular Bernina line trains run every hour from Tirano to St. Moritz. The schedule is on www.sbb.ch or www.rhb.ch. Although bahn.de will give you regular timetables just as well, you always have to check with the website of the actual train organisation for any disturbances, schedule changes, etc. Bahn.de will for sure not tell you if there are building works or additional trains on a Swiss train line.

>Also is it easy to do?

What can be "not easy" with a 2 h train trip? You buy the ticket, enter the train, choose a nice seat that is not yet taken, lay back and enjoy the scenery. You can leave a train somewhere (like Alp Grüm or Ospizio Bernina), have a lunch or a short walk, take the next train. onwards or back.

I always wonder what people think when they ask "is it easy to do" about a train or bus trip.
