| Amalfi | Day trips on Amalfi coast Posted: Fri September 1, 2006 10:37 AM UTC
Can you get a hop-on/hop-off ticket for a trip along the Amalfi coast? I'll be staying in Sorrento, and would like to visit a few of the town, eg. Positano and Ravello. What would be the best way to do this? Also, if you go on the boat trip do you get the opportunity to stop in these towns along the way?
Can you see two towns properly in one day? Thanks |

Positano and Ravello - you can certainly see both in one FULL day. I am assuming you don't have a car which would make the day much easier. There is boat service to Positano and Amalfi, from which you would have to take a bus up to Ravello (which you should not miss). However, boat service is not that frequent and bad weather can make a landing at Positano impossible because it has an unsheltered pier. Better to use the SITA bus to Ravello changing in Amalfi (easy) and then come back to Positano. At the end of the day, one bus back to Sorrento.

Thanks for your reply, that's exactly what I was looking for!
How long does it usually take by bus between Sorrento and Ravello, Ravello and Positano and Positano and Sorrento? I know, that's a lot of questions! But even a rough idea would do. Thanks again

we usually have a car so these bus estimates are rough. Assuming little traffic - Sorrento - Positano and Positano - Amalfi both well under an hour. Amalfi - Ravello assuming it is a direct route could be as little as 20 minutes. BTW, since you have to eat, my pages have one good restaurant in each town. You are going to love this. >~!

Beware the SITA bus service. We ended up at Ravello last week, and waited for a late afternoon bus to Atrani/ Amalfi which never arrived. After waiting an hour and a half, along with about 30 others of various nationalities the police were called when an indignant party of Italians attempted to commandeer a bus that arrived en route to Scala to them back to Amalfi. We gave up in the end and walked down the steps home to Atrani. If timings are important to you, do not rely on the published SITA timetable. By the way, anyone need some unused bus tickets? - they are never checked! One euro sees you anywhere for a fortnight.
