| Manaus | How to get from Lima to Manaus Posted: Thu August 31, 2006 10:41 PM UTC
My husband and I are travelling from Lima( after a treck to Inca) to Manaus for the jungle adventures. Can anybody tell me what is the best way to get from Lima to Manaus. Is the only way to go from Lima is to go to Iquitas and then to manaus??.. I know there are flights from Lima to Iquitas, but how do I get from Iquitas to manaus????
Please advice |

Fly, via Brasilia or Sao Paulo.

There is a flight from Bolivia to Manaus, I think it goes from Santa Cruz. You could travel by land from Cuzco to La Paz and then fly. I doubt that you could get a flight from Cuzco to La Paz or Santa Cruz without going through Lima. I have never been to Iquitos, but perhaps you should look for your jungle adventure there. Another alternative for a jungle adventure is from Maldonado.
In general the further up the Amazon, the less disturbed or damaged the jungle. Of course, if you take a boat from across the border from Iquitos all the way to Manaus, you probably won't need much more adventure. I did enjoy Manaus last May. It is a large city, but unlike NY it is not considered a jungle. Good luck. bob

You may have to post this as a separate question, but even so it may be difficult to find anyone who can compare from personal experience Manaus and Maldonado, or Iquitos and Maldonado. I chose to go to Manaus for language and other reasons with a plan to go on a later trip with friends to Iquitos or Maldonado for jungle adventures that might include an eco-lodge. I did not go to a lodge or a virgin forest primitive jungle location.
I think the general opinion is that if you want to see more virgin jungle and animals you will do better near Iquitos, or Maldonado (or perhaps in the even less visited jungle of Bolivia). good luck, bob
