It depends what you are wanting to do when you are here. What would you like to do with your time here/how long would you be stopping for?

Oops ! Sorry - forgot to mention background. I am from India. My husband and me are planning a trip to London and Scotland for our vacation this year in September. We plan to spend a week in Scotland and will be in Lake District for an overnight stay. We will be reaching there on 25th around 1pm and will leave the next day at about noon. Wanted to see the lakes and area around as have heard a lot about the beauty of Lake District. We are not much into walking. We will have a car with us as we would have hired one from Edinburgh.

In my opinion, i think that Keswick would maybe be easier to get to than Windermere as it is nearer the motorway and you would have less of a winding road to travel on.

However, both places are very nice to visit. I had a quick search on the internet and came up with the following BnB in Windermere which seems to be right in the center of things (i personally haven't stopped here though!)

If you have any further questions give me a shout and i will try and answer them as best i can!

If you DO stay along Windermere, I'd certainly prefer Ambleside to Bowness!

We always stay at Meadfoot ( see www.meadfoot-guesthouse.co.uk) in Windermere. The rooms are well furnished and equipped and the couple who run it are very nice. Its on a busy main road and you have to be careful driving out but other than that its very good value. You have to book well in advance.

Laurel Cottage! that's the one i stayed, just one week ago.
it's fantanstic!
from the outside, it's an old brick house which looks like those in fairy tales
the inside is cosy and pretty, yet modern
it has 5 rooms, all en-suite with clean shower rooms
bed is big and comfortable
the room has all the amenities you can ask for: shampoo, tea and coffee, hairdryer, TV, DVD player...
breakfast is lavish, and the dining room is lovely
owners friendly
driving to bowness is just about 5 mins

Hi,

I lived in Hong Kong. I am going to visit my sister who lived near Bingley in July. I plan to take a train from Bingley to Windermere and spend 3 days 2 nights there. Any suggestion for the accommodation? What kind of transportation can I take within the lake district?

Thanks.
