Chengdu Travel to Lhasa from Chengdu
Posted: Wed August 30, 2006 01:17 PM UTC
Hi all,
I am in need of some advice to the most economical way for an australian student on a budget to get from Chengdu to Lhasa, my Lonely Planet guide says it will cost me approx RMB 1270 to get to Lhasa via air plane. Is this the only way to Lhasa from Chengdu? I will have already come from KunMing so I don't want to back track if possible. Can any one help me?

How old is your LP guide? Last year I flew to Lhasa from Chengdu, and cost me RMB1800, that's including the so called "permit" and transfer to airport. The flight leaves early in the morning and there is no other way to get there except by taxi. It also depends on how much time you have too, the train is a long journey.

Just bought it the other day, the price was excluding price of 'pass' i guess? I dont mind the hard sleepers in China, I think i will go by train.

Alternatively, you might also want to try flying from Zhongdian to Lhasa. This way you won't have to go to Chengdu if you're not already there for some other reason.
