Does anyone know how to best get to one of the mountain top hotels without signing up for an entire tour? if i just book one of the mountain top hotels online, can i do a combination of bus or minivan to the bottom of the mountain and then take the cable car? or can i hire a taxi directly to the mountain top hotel? thanks!

Which hotel on Huangshan are you considering? There's no way to take a vehicle to any of the ones on the summit (eg Paiyunlou, Xihai, Beihai etc) as vehicles can only go as far as the bottom of the east/west steps (where the cable cars start). If you then take the cable cars up, you'll still have to walk a distance to whichever hotel you book.
However, if you're considering a hotel at the hot springs area on Huangshan, I believe it's possible to take a vehicle all the way to the hotel.
It's possible to book a hotel without signing up for a tour though. I've personally done it in July this year so send me a VTmail if you need help about it.

Hi ellyse, I am planning to go to Hungshan during the may holidays with my parents. Can I do that without booking a tour. Any tips on tour guides in the area .
