1) The easiest way to get to Koh Chang is to take either the 7.45am or 9.45am bus from Ekkamai Bus Station, Sukhumvit Rd, Bkk direct to one of the ferry piers to Koh Chang. ( The bus station is very near Ekkamai sky train station.)
There are often two buses running at each time - no real difference between them other than one charges 250baht/person, the other 282 baht. They just go to different car ferry piers on the mainland. Try to go to the Koh Chang Ferry pier on the mainland as this is the quickest crossing and also ferries every half hour, ferry ticket is 50 baht.

If you miss these early buses then you'll have to take a bus to Trat and then change to a small blue pick up truck taxi that will take you to the ferry pier, about 20km away, for 50 baht.

2) You wont get an AC room for 500 -600 baht but there are plenty of cheap bunglows on the north end of White Sands and on Lonely Beach

3) It depends what you want to do for 5 days. Soem people spend 2 weeks here , some people get bored after 3 days.

4) There are beer bars on Whitesands and in Kai Bae and a few new ones in Chai Chet. On lOnely Beach you'll find beach bars, music an dbackpakcers partying till early moenung. On Whitesands there are a couple of restaurants with live music, beach bars with fireshows etc

5) In general, Yes more expensive - all islands are more expensive than the mainland and Pattaya has far more good value accommodation than Koh Chang.

1. It is totally dependant on how much time you have, how much you want to spend and how much hassles you are willing to endure. The bus is the cheapest route, but also the longest. It should take about 1-2 hours more by bus. And after disembarking from the ferry you will need to get another songtaew to your resort. Personally if it's only you and your girlfriend the least hassle way, but pricey, is by plane. It is about 1800 THB per way per person. When you get off you can book a taxi to your resort, the taxi will drive on to the ferry and drive you all the way to your resort. Another choice is to book a private car for about 4500+ THB and they will also take you direct to your resort. A cheaper, but not as cheap as the bus, is to book a joint fare taxi at Khao San Rd. which is about 600 THB.

2. You can find places that are around that price, but they would not be desirable to Western standards. I highly suggest you shop around and look for yourself.

3. It is dependant on how much you would like to get away from city life as to your length of stay.

4. There is some nightlife, but not too much as in Bangkok and Pattaya standards. Probably cause most tourists travel here to get away from that so the demand is not all that high for nightlife. Most bars are in Kai Bae and White Sands.

5. As said in the previous post, Koh Chang is more expensive than Pattaya.

Here's a couple of very good websites you should study.

I like this better cause not only do they have hotels but opinions and information on the hotels, but you will find the cheaper one's on the above site.
