Parque Nacional del Iguazù Sao Paulo - Iguazú - Asunción
Posted: Mon August 28, 2006 08:04 AM UTC
Hi all.

I'm planning to do this trip: from Sao Paulo to Iguazú by bus. Stay a night or two seeing the falls, and then continue my trip by bus, from Iguazú to Asunción (Paraguay).

Any suggestions? I know it's a long trip, but it's the same for me. I've read Brazilian buses are very comfortable. Is it safe to do this trip by night?

Do you know any bus-company that does this trip?

Thanks!
Josera

Long-distance buses in all South America (SA) are usually comfortable, especially in Brazil and Argentina, but also in Chile. Less in Bolivia and Peru, but still quality and by far better than small-distance buses.

I can't remember company names, but from Sao Paulo to Iguazu there must be at least half a dozen companies, and from Iguazu to Asuncion also more than one.

I travelled around all SA by bus with no problem whatsoever, so it felt safe. Never heard of anyone stopping a bus and robbing the passengers, so I guess driver quality would be the greatest safety problem which, again, has not showed itself while I was in SA, exception made to the crazy rides in Patagonia.

If you don't mind the long ride... Buses are confortable and safe, in general. If you don't mind spending a little more, get a "leito" - a sleeper bus (very confortable, but the air conditioning is generally way too cold, although a blanket is provided!).

No problem travelling at night, although you will miss the scenery.

What is worth seeing in Asuncion, just out of curiosity? Is it a place worth stopping to see on the way to the Falls?

Thanks, Kamal

Thank you for all your answers.

I'm replying a bit later, yes, I know, but I prefer to answer now than not doing it. Sorry for that ;-P

I've just returned from my trip to South America.
I've been to Sao Paulo and Iguazú, but not to Asuncion. I missed it because I hadn't time enough to see it.

Yes, I travelled by long-distance bus. From Sao Paulo to Iguazú I went by plane, though. But from Iguazú to Buenos Aires and the return from Iguazú to Sao Paulo, I went by bus. I enjoyed a beautiful landscape. Trip was quite safe, but you have to take care of your luggage ;-P
Buses were comfortable. Drivers give you a blanket, a pillow, and sometimes even the lunch/dinner.

Ah, "what's with Asuncion? is it worth seeing it?" I don't know, because I couldn't go there. At first, I wanted to see as much as I could of South America, and Asuncion is not far from Iguazú. So I had decided to go there and stay only a few days. That's all.

Again, thank you so much for your answers!
See you!
