I am will be in Chile from mid October to mid November and would like to go to Peru for a week and do the 4-day Inca trail hike. I would like to do it in the 3rd week of October. But might need to postpone for November. Could anyone advise as to what kind of whether I should expect in October and in November? I certainly would like to minimise the chance of rain.

Also, how easy and safe travelling alone is in that area?

I'v been in Cuzco 1 month ago, and i did a wonderful inca trail to machu picchu 4 days, i booked 3 months in advance i think is the same now, about the weather is not really sure, the weather in cusco is crazy they don't have forecast maybe you can ask some agency from there. I used sungate tours they were very quick answering all my questions and attentive. (www.sungatetours.com)

It's not the best time of year to do it weather-wise, but the advantage might be that there are fewer tourists. The closer you get to december the worse the weather is. Book it is advance.
