| Ko Tao | Weather in early october Posted: Wed August 23, 2006 03:27 PM UTC
Hi all,
I'm planning to dive at ko tao on 1st week of Oct. I'm worried about the raining season. Could anyone please let me know how bad the weather will be? whole day raining without sunshine for everyday or just evening or night raining and morning or afternoon sunshine? Many thanks |

Been to Ko Tao last October. Weather was ok despite the occasional shower from time to time.

I stayed at Sairee Beach Huts, which is more on the budget side. Nothing special, bungalow with fan & cold water only for 700 THB.

Hi
I was on koh tao for a month i july/august and the weather was OK. no big rainshowers, at least not for long.. as u will be spending most of your time under water... dont worry! If you look for more crowds you should stay in the harbour town where the boat arrives, myself i stayed south on a smaller beach (chalok baan kao) and i liked that better... you still have a couple of beach bars and very good ambience.. check out "Scuba Shack" and "sunshine resorts" in chalok baan kao... thats a nice place to take your PADi (we got 6 dives instead of the programmed 4 dives in the open water course) its really a very small island so you will find out everything you need to know eventually... happy travels!

I wouldn't go to scuba shack, I did my Padi open water course there a few months ago and never received my certificationcard. When I contacted them they didn't reply. When I contacted Padi they told me that they are not a padi dive shop anymore because they kept breaking padi safety standards.

Wow! That was strange. I was there in JulY/august and I received my cards (open+adv) 4 weeks after I returned (I was actually surprised because I was told it could take up to 3 months)....
And with reg. to safety: They didnt break any regulations as I I'm aware of, we were many divers who took all kinds of courses and they were all conducted proffesionally! and everybody felt safe.. Who did you speak with when you where there?

We are also planning on being in Koh Tao for a few weeks from mid Oct to Mid Nov. We have stayed in both May and July previously which were really nice with just afternoon showers. I am curious about 2 things and still not quite sure from reading the above posts.
1. Will visibility be ok for divers? 2. How much of the day can we expect it to be raining? Is it constant or just more intense versions of the afternoon showers we had in May & July? sorry one more q! 3. Is it so rainy that you really are stuck in your hotel or indoors a lot of the time or can you still get outdoors and hit the beach a fair bit? Will it be nice lounging around in the cafe's? Thanks
