Urumqi Travel Forum

I'll be at a conference in Urumqi, and now I'm thinking about excursions for a group to Turpan and Tian Chi Lake. Are one-day trips possible? And maybe somebody knows if excursions are offered, or would we have to use puplic transportations?

And perhaps somebody has another good tip what to do with a group of scientists?

Should be pretty easy to arrange via your hotel or travel agencies in Urumqi.

Both of these popular destinations are catered for by many tour operators. Tours go to Tian Chi from the North gate entrance of Peoples' park every morning. However they do have a tendency to wait till the bus is full, this can be frustrating. There are a number of tour operators located around the North Gate entrance of the Peoples' park on GongYuan Bei Jie. They all offer the same trips at about the same rates.
If the group numbers 10 or so, it might be a better idea to hire a mini bus for the day. This way you dictate the places you want to go to at your own pace. These minibusses can be easily hired privately.
