| Tucson | Bisbee Arizona Posted: Mon August 21, 2006 11:24 PM UTC
Can anyone give me info on Bisbee?
What is the town like? How many people? Cool things to see and do? What type of industry is there. Thanks, Conner |

Bissbee is an old mining town that almost turned into a ghost town when the mine closed. But hippies moved in and it has now become a thriving arts and tourist destination.
Visit my blog http://mikepintucson.blogspot.com/ I have a list of things to see and do around southern AZ, including some on Bisbee. There is a neat mining museum there, the old Copper Queen hotel, and you can go on a tour of the Copper Queen mine. Also, take in Brewery Gulch.

The Copper Queen Hotel is reported to be haunted. Take an extra jacket with you if you are going to take a queen mine tour. It is cold when you are in the mine.

Also, there was a guy on the street who has a cat sat on top of a dog, a mouse sat on top of the cat. It's amazing. We went there on Memorial Day. Don't know whether that guy is still there.

The dog-cat-mouse guy is indeed still there. The police actually arrested him a few months ago, but it caused such a uproar that they will probably never touch him again.
Bisbee's probably about 8,000 in total pop. There are actually four sections to the town: Warren, San Jose, Lowell, and the original "Old Bisbee". It's the seat of Cochise County, so there are some government jobs, but most work in the local tourist industry or as artists. Lots of cool little inns and B&B's in town. Many in Tucson spend weekends there, especially in the summer when it's usually 10+ degrees cooler. It's really nice to visit, but it takes a certain type of person to live there full-time.

Bisbee is fun to walk around in. The houses are very cool to look at. The shops are varied as well. To get there, you'll drive through Tombstone. It's one of those controversial "you have to see" or "drive-on-through" locations. We didn't stop because it was so early (and so late) when we drove through, but my bet is it's worth an hour!
