| Bernkastel-Kues | Lively Town? Posted: Fri August 18, 2006 06:27 PM UTC
We are thinking about a vacation in Bernkastel in June 2006. Is the area 'open' than, as recent holiday destinations have been very quiet at that time. Restaurants and bars etc were closed.

Isn't it a little bit late for this? As a destination it's certainly not closed down in June. Whenever I was there it was quite busy. Peak period is however September/October. School summer vacation are in the state Rhineland-Palatinate from 9.7. - 17.8.2007. Thus if anyone wants to close his business, this will not be in June.

Bernkastel-Kues has a very small town centre, admittedly pretty with lots of shops selling kitschy or cute - depending on your opinion - German souvenirs, and enough restaurants/cafes to keep the casual visitor happy. It's not particularly lively but offers a relaxed vacation: walks in the vineyards, trips on the river, an imposing castle above the town. Ibiza it ain't.....
