| Izmir | Money exchange Posted: Thu August 17, 2006 07:16 PM UTC
Hello fellow travelers, I would like to know what is the most economical way to exchange US dollars to euro's. Is it best to exchange at the US airports or is it best to exchange in Turkey namely Istanbul?
At what bank or exchange medium? Credit cards charge 3% above exchange rate, that is not a very good option. Debit cards charge a fee at every ATM due to foreign transactions, plus the exchange rate. Travelers checks are not economical, due to their cost and exchange rate. Thank you for your reply. Sandor |

If you are in Turkey and the amount you want to exchange is high instead of going banks simply go to exchange offices and bargain.

Take about $50 in Turkish Lira with you so that you have some ready cash when you land.
Then you will be able to search round and get the best deal. However I have found, no matter in what form you take your money, there is nearly always some commision to pay. I have found this to be less than the cost of a beer, so I tend not to bother hunting high and low for the best rates to save so little.
