Hi!
There is always something happening, but of course it depends on what you like? You can take a look at www.goteborg.com or www.cityguide.se/goteborg to see if there is any special events going on. They have guides on english, too. To know what is happening on pubs and nightclubs you can check www.djungeltrumman.se, but this page is unfortunately only in swedish. Places are more crowded around payday (25th), but there is always people going out anyday of the month more or less. Most pubs are open to 01.00 or 02.00 and the clubs to about 04.00. On the big street Avenyn you'll find a lot of nightclubs for most tastes, but if you move away from this street you'll find other places, too, both pubs and clubs. There are also many cafés that are open 24 hours a day where you can pop in for a hot coffee before you go to bed after a night out in a cold november rainy Goteborg...;) /sara

Come to Göteborg of course! Besides it's closer and cheaper. ;) There is plenty of pubs and nightclubs for you guys to make a weekend of in this town. Not to mention that we're friendlier, or so they say. ;)

Hm...tricky question...I've not really been out i Sthlm, but it is the capital so I guess there's a lot to do. Goteborg, on the other hand, is smaller, you don't have to walk around so much to find places you like. Many people seems to find Goteborg a bit friendlier than Sthlm, but who am I to tell :)
I think you'll have a great time wherever you choose to go! Good luck! /sara

rite... thanks for ur friendly tips..
I was reading up some reviews on Stockholm and came across the following review posted by a VT: "Basically alll the clubs in Sweden apply members only policies to minorities. My friends and I were constantly denied entry to most Stockholm clubs. We gave up after going out week after week and being told... Har du ditt medlemmer kort? What a joke. What's insulting is that the majority of Swedish people pretend it doens't happen and basically condemn people who complain against this behaviour as "people who are exaggerating the truth and basically liars".. God forbid.. this doesn't happen in such a great place as Sweden. To bad.. the truth hurts... People / vacationers should know about cities like this. I left 3 years ago.. and will never step foot or support (purchase anything) Swedish because of my experiences there. Go to Amsterdam.. Berlin.. London if you are a minority and wish to have a great time at night. Sweden is only good for Swedes." how much truth is in this?.. Is this just a bad experience by somebody?. Is this true for Goteborg also....

I don't know what to tell you, except that there are idiots everywhere, no matter which country you go to. I've not had any personal experience with this kind of problem, but since he was in Stockholm, maybe it's more of a problem there than in Göteborg. I really don't know, sorry. :(

I really don't think that should be a problem. I think they tried to get into some of the hottest clubs, that noone will get into unless on some list or the other.
There was some talk some time back about rasist bouncers that denied some people but there is such focus on them now that I don't think they would dare deny anyone on those grounds anymore. I really hope not anyway.

I've never been denied when going out on clubs in Goteborg...I guess it could happen if you are too drunk or if the place is too crowded or if you of some reason needs an invitation....but I don't think that happens very often...I would go for Goteborg if I were you, and I can assure you that you will come in to most clubs without problems! To be on the safe side you can always go out before midnight, then the clubs are not yet filled. Why not go for a "tonights special with two drinks at the price of one" that most places have and that usually ends at about ten...then you can start your night out a bit cheaper and you will be certain to get in! But as I said, I don't really think it's a big problem here.

DAL_s, just out of curiousity I checked out the VT tip you quoted and the poster too. I wouldn't pay undue attention to that kind of comment. That person only logged in once, that is when the account was created, created only one tip and that was the one you found. I found the same post (copy) on another travel forum too. Someone venting their frustration I believe rather than giving an objective account.
I don't go out much these days (in Sweden or elsewhere), but I would be surprised if this is a big problem. I'd trust the locals on this one :) Nonetheless, there are idiots everywhere, even in Göteborg :) Enjoy your weekend trip!

Having left Göteborg today (sigh...) I already miss the city I grew up in but I was born in Stockholm and visit my parents there a lot too so I have double loyalties :))) I think you're doing well to visit Sweden in summer. I recommend people to visit from May to August OR possibly in early December for the Christmas atmosphere, unless they are into winter sports of course but then they don't want the cities. Stockholm and Göteborg both have gorgeous archipelagos (and yep, you can party there too!) which are very alive in summer.
As for that comment, indeed it was the only thing that person wrote but there could of course be a grain of truth in it in that we have had discussions in media around this issue. Some university students with immigrant background tested getting in to clubs as part of their social science paper and the results were appaling BUT that was all three big cities, including my home town of Malmö with its segregation. There is a lot more focus on this today indeed and it certainly doesn't happen everywhere. Moreover, it happens to Swedes too if we don't have the right outfit or whatever for a particular club - then we're given all sorts of excuses as to why we can't get in...But again, this is not at all something that happens everywhere.
