Two hours a day commuting? Why don't you get something inexpensive in the Zona Viva (Zone 10) in Guate? Oh, I know. Almost no ordinary tourists spend time there, because all the other beaten path tourists who have only seen the airport or maybe a glimpse of Zone 1, tell them how awful it seems.
See a good description of Guate: http://wikitravel.org/en/Guatemala_City

About 20km of the road between Guatemala City and Antigua is currently under reconstruction and they expect it to take 18 months. This is between Mixco and San Lucas. Depending on what time you have to be at work in the morning and what time you leave at night can make a big difference in how long it takes. I drive from Antigua to San Cristobal (less than 20 miles) and it takes me at least an hour to go in for an 8:30am start. Friday nights leaving work at 5:30pm you don't even want to think about. On a bus it's much worse. A friend has a 7:30am class on Mondays and he takes the bus shortly after 5am.

Jessica, theres really not many people who " comute" between Antigua, population 35,000 ,and Guat.City.,Pop. 3 Million.Between the hours of 7a.m. and 8.30a.m.,the trip can take approx.1 and a half hours. You can plan on spending at least 3 hours on the road every day, this trip is highly unadvisable, please look for other alternatives.
