| Kochi | Cochin to Chennai Posted: Mon August 14, 2006 09:36 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how long it will take me to travel from Cochin to Chennai by train and whether I can get a direct train or if I would have to change. Also how much would a one way ticket cost by air? Finally can anyone suggest some midrange accomodation in Cochin popular with backpackers?> Thanks |

There are many trains which will take you from Cochin to Chennai. It depends on what class of journey you like (Ordinary Sleeper / AC Sleeper) and if you want Day Journey or Night Journey. Here are the train names:
CHENNAI MAIL RAPTISAGAR EXP TVC CHENNAI EXP DHANBAD EXPRESS GUV CHENNAI EXP HOWRAH EXP AHILYANAGARI EX The journey is approx 10-14 hours depending on the train.... You can visit www.indianrail.gov.in and click 'Train Fare / Accomodation' Hope this helps...

cochin to chennai takes 12 and a half hours and leaves chennai at 8:30pm from chennai central. According to the info i have it is on the Alleppey express train no 6041. If your in india much longer i would recomend gettin the magazine "Trains at a Glance" it has all the train routes and time tables with all the info you need for 45 rupees. you can get it from most train stations at the ciosks. 2nd class sleeper is the best option and try and get an upper bunk if you can or a side upper its much more convienient.

| Kochi | RE: Cochin to Chennai Posted: Wed August 16, 2006 11:43 AM UTC The reliable DAILY trains are two. One is Trivandrum to Chennai mail and another one Alleppey to Chennai express. BOTH these trains are direct trains and you don't need to change. It takes about 12-13 hours for one way travel. These trains are over night trains , that is,they leave late afternoon/evenings and arrive Chennai in the morning between 6-8am. Airfare depends on when you travel and the airlines. what does mid range mean interms of rupees.? take care.
