Nürnberg Historical Interest -- What is...?
Posted: Mon August 14, 2006 08:16 AM UTC
Hi all,

Was wondering if Nurnberg is a good place to stop enroute from Munich to Berlin?

Again, it's a trip with a historical focus, so let me know if it's worth my while to stop by here.

By the way, does it take about 3 hours on coach from Munich to Nurnberg and another 3 hours to Leipzig and then about 1.5 hours from Leipzig to Berlin?

Thanks for your input and have a great day! :)

Nuremberg is a great city with a lot more to see and do than just a stop in between. But if you don't have more time I hope you can fit it in.

By train, Munich to Nuremberg is about 1 1/4 hours (ICE). By coach 3 h should work. I assume you have rented/chartered a bus?

Nuremberg was one of the great cities of the medieval age, where it reached almost mythical status. This mythical status is the reason it became such a focal point for the Nazis, and why you'll find lots of medieval history there, but also more poignant recent history.

For example, you can see the Zeppelin Stadium where Hitler gave his famous speeches for the infamous Nuremberg Rallies. When you see it you'll probably recognise it from all the war footage you've ever seen. It was even mocked up in the movie Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

You can also visit the courtroom where the Nuremberg trials were held, and sit in the same seats as the people who gave the Nazis their final justice on this planet. That is quite something.

As antistar mentioned before, there's a lot of history you can discover here, not only 'younger', but also 'old' history. There is the castle, the city's most famous landmark and many other ancient buildings you can see. Please feel free to check out my pages about Nürnberg (I am currently working on them, uploading and filling a lot of tips and pictures) and as me for further questions.
Suerte!
