Hotel Ratings

Hello there,

Does anyone know of a way to sort hotels by rating, or VT satisfaction index? The only sort options I see are alpabetically and by number of reviews...

The reason I ask this question is because I've been using a site called tripadvisor lately to get reviews on hotels. Their hotel section gives you the ability to see the best hotels in a city based on the rating of different attributes by their members. Seems to works well when there are enough reviews to be statistically relevant. The only problem I have with tripadvisor is that it's hard to know if the reviews are real or not. Unlike VT, where posters generally aren't anonymous, tripadvisor's posters are complete unknowns. I just feel like I would have a better sense of comfort in a rating system with comments from people I "know" or whose travel tastes I can discern from their pages.

Cheers,
David.

Don't think so, just those two ways of sorting you mentioned. But you get the general idea with the most rated don't you?
There was a forum recently talking about authenticity of rates on Tripadvisor and it didn't sound good :-)

I think this the satisfaction index is in the works to be implimented, at least I thought I had heard something about that. I don't think they are intending to have them sorted by rating (as in this is a five star hotel type of rating). That's why the restaurants are all supposed to be grouped on the restaurant name, so that the satisfaction rating can be averaged.

The anonymous nature of tripadvisor is the weakness of that system because the hotel keepers can write downgrading competitors etc. I've heard that complaint a lot.

Yes...you will in future be able to sort according to satisfaction index. Tripadvisor is full of fake and dubious reviews...that's mostly what they have. That and the random rant...I have always been a huge proponent of better quality reviews (even if that means less of them).
