| Uyuni | Transport La Paz to Uyuni Posted: Sat August 12, 2006 01:37 PM UTC
We (2) arrive in La Paz on Sunday Morning 1st of october (after a long trip from Europe).
We are looking for transport to Uyuni bus/train to start a 3-day trip on Thuesday in the Salar and de Reserva de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa. We prefer not to travel at night. What can you recommend us? Spanish is not a problem. Thanks Choque2001@yahoo.com |

I don't know what time you arrive Sunday morning but a typical itinerary to Uyuni is the 10:00 AM bus from La Paz to Oruro to catch the 3:30 PM Expreso del Sur train from Oruro to Uyuni (10:20 PM arrival is obviously at night). If you have time, I would recommend resting the first day in La Paz to get used to the altitude and wait to start until the next morning. If you try to do the 4WD tour down to Laguna Verde and back to Uyuni in 3 days, it can be done but expect a very long drive back on the third day and a nighttime arrival in Uyuni.

Yes, as the other reply implies, if you do this trip you almost certainly have to do some night travel - when I was there (just last year) there was no option other than to arrive into Oruro at night by train... then again, the hotels/tour operators there are used to it and usually meet you at the station if you've booked ahead so you might want to do that.

AlbuqRay has a nice schedule. Bring warm clothes and a LOT a patience. Double check your seat reservations when possible and take it easy.
