| Maastricht | What's in and what's good in Maastricht and Valkenburg? Posted: Sat August 12, 2006 07:21 AM UTC
Hello all!
How are you guys? I'm trying to plan a trip to Netherlands especially to Maastricht and Valkenburg during November(i read the november weather post... I pray for mild weather!). I'm wondering what might be in Maastrict and Valkenburg? Any recommended hotels to stay(something nice and cheap pls)? I found one in Valkenburg called Hulsman Hotel with a night deal i think 4 nights stay with breakfast and 2x 4 course meal dinner for the first/last 2 nights for 450 USD or abit less. Anyone been to this hotel? would love your input. I'm doing Limburg because i wanted to at least stay at Terworm Castle for a night this round. Been to Amsterdam twice before and was drooling over the picture of Terworm castle for years now. I found me a package on their website it's called Terworm 4 season arrangement with 1 night stay, breakfast and 4 course meal for 2 for about Euro 300(i noticed soon i'll have a hole in the pocket.. haha). Will be waiting for your replies. Cheers Meowsan |

Hi
Valkenburg is a very famous summer destination in the Netherlands, being located in the 'mountain zone' it attracts lots of people who want to walk or bike in the province of Limburg. It has (in the summer) a lot of café's and bars and side walk café's. But to be honest I think in November you will not find a lot of things to do, beside the casino and a spa resort. The town itself will be more or less deserted. Maasticht is one of the oldest cities in the country and has a lot more to offer: old buildings, town wall, impressive cathedral, shops, museums and so on. I would recommend to stay here and not in Valkenburg (or you must like the quietness in November). Two tips (off the beaten path see also my Netherlands page): - Eijsden, the most southern town in the country with a castle; - St Gerlachus Church More information you may find on the websites: http://www.vvvzuidlimburg.nl/index_en.aspx http://www.valkenburghotels.nl/ http://www.vvvmaastricht.nl/index2.php3 happy travels in the Netherlands Jaap

I found out valkenburg will be having Christmas Market and Amsterdam will be having pAn exhibition at RAI... hmm atleast i get to see something. =_='

Congratulations; that's a solid travel schedule with some backups!
In Amsterdam and for some of your local Maastricht/Valkenburg/Heerlen trips you need to use public transport; tram in Amsterdam and busses in Limburg. As you have been in Amsterdam before I think you are familiar with the "Strippenkaart", but just for your info: http://www.vbn-bv.nl/ovinfo/algemeen_en.asp?vPaginaID=204 Enjoy every bit of your trip!
