| Tucson | take-out restaurants in Tucson? Posted: Fri August 11, 2006 09:13 PM UTC
Some friends of ours, who live in Tucson, are about to have a baby. We wanted to send them a gift certificate to a restaurant. We thought it would be good to pick a restaurant that has take-out since they will have a new-born. Any suggestions? They live on 8th St, near the University of Arizona. Thanks!

Very close to the UA are several restaurants. If your friends live around the 1000 block, or thereabouts, of East 8th Street, these would be within a couple of miles. (some of the other restaurants suggested aren't close to where your friends live)
On University Blvd. Excellent pizza and sandwiches -- No Anchovies Great burgers and good sandwiches -- Gentle Ben's Chinese (subsidiary of PF Chang's) -- Pei Wei Diner Downtown, on Congress Street Very good Italian -- Enoteca the Best Mexican -- El Charro On 4th Avenue: Italian -- Caruso's BBQ -- Rod's KC BBQ On East Broadway very good BBQ -- Soul Feathers But here is a website where you can type in their address and it will list restaurants that are close. http://tucsonrestaurantguide.com/s-loc

Soul Feathers has been closed for two months. It's a shame because it was probably the best bbq in town.
If they don't mind walking to Main Gate on University (five large blocks north from 8th), Pei Wei's definitely a good call. There's a very decent Greek place on the corner of University and Park called "Big Fat Greek Restaurant" (no relation to the one in Tempe), but it's not as good as Jim's further north on Park. Also, Pita Pit and Silver Mine Subs are good (both around University and Tyndall), and they're both chains, so you should be able to find gift certificates pretty easy (I know for a fact that Silver Mine has them).

Soul Feathers closed? What a shame, because it did have really good BBQ. And the onion rings (made using an ice cream batter) were great.
Silver Mine does have pretty good subs. But I really think No Anchovies has the best around.
