| Whistler | Worst time of year? Posted: Fri August 11, 2006 05:44 PM UTC
My wife and I are celebrating our 30th anniversary by going to Whistler for the first time on the Whistler Mountaineer, primarily because she likes train rides. However, the dates are October 2-5; the gondola and lifts are closed. I'm wondering if...
a) many restaurants will also be closed in the village b) activities will be nil c) we'll be stuck in the Chateau Whistler forced to eat 100 dollar meals Do you know what goes on there between summer and skiing? We don't ski, so we won't miss that; I just hope SOMETHING is going on there then... |

There is golf, tennis, hiking, the zipline, Quadtrac rides, fishing, rollerblading.
I don't know many restaurants that will be closed since they will be gearing upo for Canadas Thanksgiving. Are you sure ALL lifts will be closed?

PS. If I was there I would force you to spend more than $100 on a meal

Googler Whistler and you'll find more information, I should think. I was only there once, but it was during the summer, and there's lots to do all year long. The place was planned with a shopping area and has lots of restaurants to suit every budget, including delis for picking up great stuff for picnics.
How about this site? http://www.whistler.com/dining/

We were there in August a few years ago and found every thing up and running. There was even one lift open and we watched some people snow boarding. If you don't ski then you shouldn't have a problem. The place is huge with plenty of stuff to do. Also search for Blackcomb Mountain.

I live in Whistler and Oct 2-5 is a slower time of the year but it is usually quite nice at that time of year. As for the amount of people in town it is at a low, so there are a lot of deals in town and you probably won't be spending 100 dollars to eat. Most of the restaurants have 3 course meal specials for $40 per person and the restaurants are amazing. Best restaurant is the Rimrock if you have a chance but make reservations as the special draws in all the locals. Also a lot of the Spas have specials as well, I think the Four Seasons does a special for 80 a massage and you get to use the facilities, it is a the best spa in Whistler.
There are a lot of trails to do hiking and the golf courses are still open until mid october. It is coming up to rainy season so bring some warmer clothes and rain gear. Happy Anniversary and have fun in Whistler.
