Hi there, I am planning a round the world trip taking in Indonesia and in particular the Banda Islands, to get to that tiny rock called Run. However I understand that getting there could be tricky. Also the UK foreign office has a warning against all travel to Maluku particually Ambon.
My understanding is that to get to the Banda Islands I would have to go through Ambon. Can someone explain if the security situation right now really is that bad, as a well travelled backpacking tourist is there much threat. And finally what would be the best approach to reach the Banda Islands. I heard Merpiti air went to Ambon from Jakarta but their website is down - are they still operating? Thanks in advance Phil |

Hi,If you go to Lonely Planet Thorn Tree Indonesia section you can read Lazslo's latest reports of these areas. He has a great website here as well. he is very welll travelled in Banda etc

In short: there are no dangers any more, flights are operating (as are weekly Pelni ships), and getting to Run is no problem at all.
