Breda Finding a cat-sitter
Posted: Tue August 8, 2006 04:26 PM UTC
VT might not be the most appropriate place to post this question, but I don't know where else to reach the Breda community online. Does anyone know of a responsible cat-loving person who could come to my apartment once a day to take care of my cat while I'm away for a few days? I'm moving to Breda on Thursday 10 August and will post a sign for a cat-sitter at the pet store on Grote Markt. How much should a cat-sitter be paid for 5 days of 20 minute visits?

You have more chance if you post a sign at the local supermarkets in that neigbourhood. Albert Heijn, the supermarket always has a sign board and lots of people read those signs ! EUR 30 - EUR 50 should be more than enough (definately not more).

But are you sure you want strangers in your house ? Dont you have a nice neighbour you know that you can ask ?

I always thought that a house cat, as opposed to a dog, can manage on their own. Get a feeder and water thing and a couple of litter boxes. A cat door would make it even easier.

Dukaat is right. My cat stays on his own quite well. If you aren't so sure about it maybe someone you know could stop by just once while you are gone? Giving out your keys to strangers is a bit risky.

I've never left the cat alone for more than 36 hours so I didn't know cats can go many days longer without human interaction (with extra food and litter, etc.) and not freak out. You are quite right about it being sketchy to give keys to someone who finds my ad at Albert Heijn. I'm having coffee with my neighbour tonight, finally meeting him, and maybe he can pop in every few days. Good advice, Breda VTers!
