How far is it from Merida to Chitzen Itza? I want to rent a car in Merida.
Is it a easy drive?

Girl, you are planning a good trip, do not worry, things will be easy, just enjoy your vacations.

Chichen is about 2 hours far from Merida if you drive at 95 kms per hour. The road is good, just keep in mind that it's raining almost daily in the afternoon, sometimes lasts around few hours, but it is nice, I came back today from Uxmal and it rained I saw bunches or tourists from everywhere and a very nice rainbow, also the rain brings a very very nice enviroment when you are visiting this ancient buildings.
The only problem in renting the car will be when you drive in the city, it's ok, just people don't drive like people in big cities. It's not a big deal.

=)
Bottled water is ok. You will find stores almost in every single place, if not, try to look for a store named: Oxxo, they are very convenient. It's like a 7eleven. Small stores also have water and chips.
Always purified water, in that way you wont get sick.
Be aware about food as well, how? Ok. Always choose a clean place. That's it.
Avoid shrimps from restaurants on the beach, specialy in progreso, they taste so good but a friend ate a delicious shrimp cocktail and he got sick from it. =(
So try fish and other well- cooked stuff.
mmm About getting a place in progreso, any place you find is almost good, Progreso is a nice place when your friends go with you, prices over there are not high, so you will find something average i guess.
If you need my help here just tell me, i am not very good with hotels in progreso, sometimes i forget it exists.
=)
Bring a hat, sunblock and mosquito repelent.
Don't drink and drive. Don't park any car on yellow lines, if people bother you when they offers stuff to sell, just tell them gracias, they just do their job (sometimes they are annoying).
There are nice places to visit in Merida, specialy friday and sat (in downtown).

That's all for now.
I hope you have a very good trip. =)
Saludos desde Yucatan,
Z

I have been to both Merida and Progreso many times although the last time was 15 yrs ago so I hear alot has changed.
I have family in both places:)
I just could not remember the ride to Chitzen Itza.
I love Mexico and I look forward to sharing it with my husband and our two kids.
One of my cousins from Juarez just gratuated college in El Paso TX and has moved to Progreso. He is very handsome I will have to show you a picture some time.
I found a place in between Progreso and Chixulub called the Siesta Inn.
Sounds nice so I reserved.
Thanks for all your help.
