| Juneau | Big Red Sail Yacht Posted: Mon August 7, 2006 07:09 PM UTC
So I am trying to find out which yacht was anchored in Gastineau Channel just south of the Douglas bridge about two or three weeks ago. It had a red hull and was somewhere between 120 and 150 feet long. Anyone know whose boat that was?

Still a mystery-
Checked with a few buddies on the Juneau water front. Anchoring up in the Channel avoids checking in with the harbormaster. Caused quite a flurry and lots of rumors, but noone really knows.

RUMOR...and you know how these always are.
I heard the yacht was a rental from Seattle. However, I can't imagine what they would do in Juneau for 3 weeks.

Single mast? Sloop rig?
That's the Georgia. She comes up every few years. Most of those big yachts are corporate owned... they'll pull into Juneau and wait for the VIPs to show up, then go on a short cruise. Many big-time corporate types aren't allowed to fly small commuter planes or make more than x number of stops... Juneau is the only major airport in SouthEast with commercial jet service (that meets many company's security criteria) out of Seattle or Anchorage. (I remember when Michael Dell came to a remote fishing lodge... it was a big deal getting him on a floatplane. The whole security staff and body-guard squad came in days ahead to supervise everything...) Back to the yacht. All of the crew claimed they were bound by a non-disclosure contract and couldn't tell anyone who the owner was or who was on board. TSA staff did confirm that Ted Turner was in and out of town while the Georgia was parked here. -Case
