| Torino | Shroud Chapel Posted: Mon August 7, 2006 09:51 AM UTC
I have recently read in a book that the Cappella Della Sacra Sindone, or the Chapel of The Holy Shroud is closed for restauration, after the fire in 1997. is that true? is it still closed? or is it open for visits? if it is open, i was wondering if you could tell me the hours between I can visit it. thank you for the information.

I visited it in April. You cannot see the actual shroud (which only goes on display every ten years or so- not even for the Olympics) but you can see a replica and enter the Chapel. There is also a free museum attached. I think I have a tip about it on my Torino page, you might find a web link and/or opening times there (I don't know the info off my top of my head).

The EXTERIOR is currently under construction, by the way.

The Chapel is open every day from 9 to 12 am and from 3 to 7 pm. It is not possible to visit it during functions. You will not be able to see the real Shroud (it is only exposed in special events, very rare) but the museum is full of pictures and information about the historical and religious events.
