Halifax Halifax Bound

Hi...we are flying to Halifax in early October, and would like some reasonably priced restaurants that cater to seafood for the most part. Also, does Peggy's Cove still have their restaurant for a lobster dinner?

Thanks for any info you can offef.

Hi

We like downstairs at Salty's . Right on the waterfront. Always good food. Also McKelvie's on Lower Water is good ...great crunchy haddock and Scallops. Peggy's Cove still have their restaurant. I've had the chowder there ...but they serve lobster too ...as does almost every restaurant in the city.
You might want to try Shore Club Lobster Suppers in Hubbards. They are really good. They have all-you-can-eat Salad Bar and unlimited Fresh Cultivated Mussels plus a nice lobster and dessert for $$31.30.Here's their web site.http://www.lobstersupper.com/suppers/index.html

Have fun.

I have to echo the comment on McKelvies... That is one of our favourite seafood restaurants in Halifax.

You can also try The Five Fishermen, they have a good menu too. But you really cannot go wrong with TFF, Mckelvies or Salty's.....

Enjoy your time here!

I concur with the positive comments about Salty's and McKelvie's, but I would not categorize the Five Fishermen as "reasonably priced"; it's one of, if not the most expensive seafood house in the Halifax area. However, you can eat in the ground level (called Little Fish) for slightly less. I'd suggest giving the Peggy's Cove restaurant (Sou'wester) a miss, except maybe for their wonderful gingerbread.

Yeah, McKelvies is our favourite. In fact we are bringing a bunch of out of town guests there Monday. TFF is bloody expensive, but the quality is top notch... Not a regular fare place to go. Sorry to hear about Salty's... have only been there once because we always go to McKelvies!

Have safe travels!

I would also not bother to eat at Peggy's cove. There are many great restaurants in Halifax that are reasonably priced. McKelvies is one good choice. Most pubs serve fresh Haddock meal for $8 or less (My Fathers Mustache, Bearlys, and many more! Reasonable Italian bistro's(Tomasino's has musician every friday and saturday nights). Lobster is always expensive but my favorite place is In Hubbards Shore club lobster supper. Hubbards is a great way to spend a day if it is sunny and warm. It is a scenic drive if you take exit 5 at Tantallon and switch over to the smaller highway that follows the ocean to Hubbards. There a private beach and campground next to the Shore club and throught the summer and early fall the Shore Club will have some great bands playing. Very popular and crowded. call before going to make sure that it is still running in october.
