Järnvägshotellet is a classic in Kiruna. It is next to the station so it means going up a hill every time you want to shop etc. and it also means train noise of course (but not too bad). I have never stayed there but it looks quite cosy.
As I said in your mail, do not stay in the STF hostel, it is full of odd characters and not that clean. I have never stayed in this hostel but it looks much nicer: http://www.yellowhouse.nu/startsida.htm The second link you provided is to a housing company which has holiday flats too. I guess lots of temporary miners live there too and the location is not the best even if I'm sure it's OK... You could also stop a couple of days in Abisko National Park: www.abisko.nu

I would make a reservation. Lots of tourists come to the Arctic in summer, not just for the midnight sun in June but also to walk the famous trails etc. so it might be crowded.

Sadly not this year - I love the place. The road and railway between Kiruna and Narvik pass through the great Abisko National Park with the famous Lapporten - Lapland Gate valley.

Not as interesting as Kiruna to Narvik. It's quite a long journey with lots of forest and moorland.
