Odessa Transport from Odessa to Romania
Posted: Tue August 1, 2006 06:48 AM UTC
Hello everyone,

I have 2 questions.

1. How can I get from Odessa to Romania? All means of transport that you know: ferryboat, train and bus, their schedule and price, if it happens you know all these.

2. Do you know if an English citizan needs a visa for Ukraine and/or Republic of Moldavia?
I'm asking this questions because the way to Romania crosses the Republic of Moldavia.

Thank you all who will reply my questions.

Hi Irina-Interesting route! An English citizen doesn't need a visa for Ukraine but yes he/she needs one for Moldavia! I check these things on the KLM airlines website http://www.klm.com and click on travel-planning-info and then on passports-health.
I don't know if it may be more convenient to travel Odessa-Kiev and then to Bucuresti. I found Kiev-Bucuresti train, (train # 59) departs 14.00 arrives in Bucuresti 19.01 next day (29 hours travel). I couldn't find the costs exactly, I think between 600 and 1000 gryvna (100 and 160 Euros).
You can check the schedules on http://www.poezda.net (click English) and look for Kiev and then train 59 that goes from Moscow to Sofia (via Kiev).
Also you can check on http://nsinternationaal.nl That is the Dutch railways, click on English, click Travel planning and then type your route.
Odessa-Bucuresti it gives 2 x change of trains.
Also you can check on
http://www.railwayukr.com/index.php?cont=ticketsz.htm&ln=ru
and for fares on:
http://www.railwayukr.com/index.php?cont=ticketsp.htm&ln=ru
(but you must know some cyrilic alphabet)
Odessa-Kiev will be around 60-100 gryvna (10-16 Euros) for a bed in Kupe (4-bed compartment). Check schedules also on poezda.net
Kiev-Bucuresti goes via Moldavia?
Good luck
Noel

Noel,

Do you happen to come across a link that says something about ferryboats from Odessa to Romania (Constanta, Galati -harbours at the Black Sea Coast on the Romanina side).

I kept searching the Internet but could not find anything about ferry trips. Maybe you've come across.

I will check the train route from Kiev to Bucharest.

Thank you.
Irina

Hello Noel,
Thank you once again for the useful information.

I looked at those links and from what I see there are no ferries from Odessa to Romania.
It remains to travel by train.

Thank you.

If you go by train from Odessa you must change 2 x and you go through Moldavia, yes. If you go from Kiev I think you don't pass through Moldavia (that train goes via Chernovtsy). Also I think these tickets are easier to buy. Good luck!

WE forgot to buy a visa for Moldova and had to go the long way - it takes ages! Best to get a visa and go through Moldova anyway - it's a great country
