Australia is very strict with any kind of food or plant that you bring in.

Checks are typically not random... I would say 90% of arriving passengers are requested to open their lugguage.

At least that is what I've experienced with flights originating from Singapore.

So far it's been the same for perth, brisbane, melbourne and sydney.. but not been to darwin yet.

It's easier to explain prescribed medication. If it is normal off the shelf supplement, it's better if you bring in a brand new bottle with security-seal not broken. Partially used bottles - there is a chance they will ask u to discard it in the trash...

cheers!

declare anything-believe me, the only requirement to join Australian Customs is that you be paranoid. I agree about the fact that they check almost anyone. They say it's random, but I get checked 99% of the time. If these guys were running the show in baghdad, they'll be peace and prosperity in all of iraq.

The above posters are absolutely right. You should declare your supplements and anything else that you are unsure of.
Last time from Thailand into Adelaide I forgot I had a half full can of cashews and some packaged ground coffee in my luggage (had been there for weeks). Well I got ALL my clothes, every single item including underwear etc dragged out and inspected. I got interrogated as to why I had some Panadeine Forte tablets, I had to completely empty my handbag and purse and had my purse, money etc 'brushed/swabbed' for drug traces AND I was officially cautioned that I could be charged/fined etc!! WHY? All because I forgot about said items and didn't declare them. If I had declared them - no problem and no humiliation and embarrassment. Never again.

Hi You need to declare all food items upon entering Australia, could receive a heavy fine if you get caught.

Totally agree - declare anything you aren't sure off. It can't hurt to declare something which you didn't need to.
