Sequoia National Park Traveling from Death Valley to Sequoia
Posted: Mon July 31, 2006 02:35 AM UTC
I'm taking a southern CA trip this summer, but have limited time. I've got my heart set on visiting Death Valley, and was hoping to jump up to Sequoia for a couple of days as well. But mapquest seems to be telling me the the only way to get between the two places is roughly an 8 hour drive, presumably because the mountains on Sequoia's east side are impassable? I'm really hoping there's a solution to this problem. Please let me know. Thanks!

You guessed it. 8hours might not be intirely accurate depending on how fast you drive, but it is a good long way.

You'll have to head down to Bakersfield, up on highway 99 through Tulare, then north east into Sequoia.

Part of the reason why these parks are as nice as they are is because they do not allow roadways and developments to destroy the natural balance.

From Death Valley, Yosemite might be the same time away, but to get there, you could go through Bishop (east of Sequoia) and Devil's Postpile.

Nope, no solution. Why are you visiting Death Valley in the summer? Forecast for tomorrow is 113F.
