| Aruba | car hire in Aruba Posted: Sun July 30, 2006 07:08 AM UTC
We are travelling to Aruba in August and want to hire a 4x4 for three days to fully explore the isalnd. Should we hire the car over the internet before we go or wait until we get there. Which would be cheaper? Any recommendations for good companies?
Are there any places we should make sure we visit? Also: the Bon Bini..where is it and is it worth going to Thanks for your help |

I don't think it's necessary to arrange a car ahead of time unless you're wanting to save some cab fair from the airport to your hotel. We stayed at the LaCabana in the low rise area between the high rise and Oranjestad. It was about a half mile to a mile from the rental car agencies. It was easy to arrange from the hotel. The agencies will pick you up and drop you off.
With a jeep you will be able to see more of the north side. With a car you can still get around pretty good, places like the lighthouse on one end of the island and "Baby Beach" on the other end of the island. I would recommend Baby Beach and take some snorkel gear with you. It's protected by a rock seawall which makes it as calm a swimming pool. It's a little surreal with this oil refinery behind it in the distance but still worth the trip. Take a drive through the center of the islands Arikok National Park. It's like Arizona by the sea. It's a little hard to do much here at mid-day because of the heat. If you want to do any small hiking trails here do them in the morning. When you get to the Other side stop at Boca Prins and tool around. From there we actually continued along the coast to Baby Beach.

There are also a bunch of car rental companies directly across the street from the exit doors at the airport, so you can check them all out when you arrive and may be able to bargain. I suspect you won't need to reserve ahead of time in August.
