Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Würzburg Will be in Wurzburg for 5 nights starting August 14, 2006. Need information please.
Posted: Sun July 30, 2006 06:13 AM UTC
I have only been in Wurzburg in the past during Christmas holiday or in early spring so it was quite cold. That didn't stop me from enjoying myself then and I am so eager to return for a visit when its warmer!!

What are temperatures there and how cool can it be when I reach Garmisch/Fussen area? Someone told me it has been very hot in Bavaria recently, is it still hot? Or will it be cloudy with rain in both areas? I will be packed for hot or cool, rain or shine, but appreciate any info.

Also, are shops, roads, lodgings, etc very busy with people on holiday?

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

mid august might be still hot, but the summer is comming to a end. rain is possible in both places. Garmisch / Fuessen is some 400 km away from wuerzburg, close to the alps, but climate is more or less the same. if you want to go for hiking in garmisch, a warm pullover might be a good idea.
Mid August is still tourist season, but the peak is in July. August 15 is a public holiday in bavaria.

I usually use weather.msn.com to check the forecast for Garmisch which you enter in the drop down search box. It givea a 5 day forecast and also a 10 day option. It's a reasonable guide. At the moment it's sunny but it's going to be rain this week with no sunny symbol for 7-8 days. Most weather forecasts ae only guides but I've found this one to be fairly accurate. Check it just before you travel. You seem to be ready for all eventualities and I hope the sun shines for your visit and you see the mountains at their best.

Keeping in mind what the summer looks like right now here - you should be fine in August. Right now we're having temperatures up to 34°C and 18°C during the nights. It might cool down a bit come mid August but it's gonna be summer temperatures still - you never know though -
Definitely a warm sweater and a rain jacket will help to keep you warm during thunder storms or a rainy day.

August is still a holiday month in Germany and it will be busier than off season but I don't think you'll have trouble finding accomodation in Würzburg - don't know about Fussen though - that's much more of a touristy spot due to the castles etc.

Have a great time whatever the weather holds in store ...

Thanks To Everyone for your replies and advice which I will use and will monitor weather before leaving Aug 13th. Will be wonderful to see green grass, flowers, trees, etc, and to sit @outdoor eatery and enjoy mountain scenery. Without a lot of snow as in past visits.

Also, another question. In past I've had to park in underground downtown parking lot in Wurzburg or @Residense (sp?). Is there any where thats free? Know parking is @premium, but meters sure cut into a budget! I don't mind walking.

Thanks for info on Wurzburg parking , I'll check into that.

Will also read up on Bavarian Holiday on Aug 15. Thank goodness for this forum (internet) and travel books!

I have clothes hanging in closet ready to pack & have included rain jacket & hoodie sweat shirt to walk about in Garmisch.

Guten tag.
