Samos Cheap accommodation in Samos/ Island hopping
Posted: Sat July 29, 2006 11:26 AM UTC
We are two women who have a flight to Samos in August but haven't booked any accommodation yet. We will probably spend the first two nights and last night in Samos but we would love to visit other islands too. Neither of us have been to Greece so would appreciate any information please. Would we have trouble getting accommodation on any of the Isands, we are not too fussy and don't want to spend much? Where should we go, is it safe, etc.
Any ideas would be great,
Thanks
Alison

It would be preferable to start your island hopping on arrival, the easiest islands to go to would be something like Patmos, Lipsi, Leros, Kalymnos. Ferries/hydrofoils go from Pythagorio (very near the airport) daily and you should be able to start the same day if your flight arrives by around 13:00. Leave your nights in Samos until the end to allow for a day or two 'ferry buffer'.

Going without booked accomodation and cheap does not apply to August, prices double and very limited availability (I don't go then, so I'm using informed guessing).

Other possibilities are Fourni and Ikaria or Chios and Lesbos, these have less frequent ferries so you would have to be careful not to miss your return flight.

I would at the very least secure your first nights accomodation, as August is very busy! That way if you arrive tired you can chill in the knowlegde you have somewhere to stay, then, if you can't find any accodation after that date, you can just hop on a ferry and begin your adventure!

for sure it will be really difficult to find acomodation right on spot.
much better to book ahead, else you will get tired searching, have to compromise a lot etc.
book somehow 2-3 nights and once you are there decide what to do next.
island hoping is generally easy for nearby islands. try :
