I'm looking to come to San Felipe in December for New Years. I'll be coming from San Diego, and was wondering if anyone had tips on where to stay. Also, it seems like if I wanted to rent a dune buggy, it would be safe to wait till I got there to do that?

Anyone been to the Valle de los Gigantes?

Where is the San Felipe you look for? I know at least 3 San Felipes in Mexico and they are not even close to each other.

On the east coast of Baja, on the Sea of Cortes about 2-3 hours south of Mexicali. Also, anyone know about safety driving down there from San Diego?

Mr Darius
San Felipe is easy to get to. Straight down the 8 to the 111 south cross in Mecicali then go straight until you see the sign San Felipe 150 Km. Book your stay now if you plan for a New Year's Party. Hotel Lucerna is a great place to stay.
I would advise you not to rent anything in Mexico because if something happens you will pay through the NOSE!!!!
WHile you are down there, about 23 miles after the Kenworth plant & Costco you will see a turn off. This is called Estacion Cuahila. This road takes you along along the north side of the sea of cortez and will eventully drop you off in a place called El Golfo. I have a picture on my homepage. San Felipe might be famouse but it is over-crowded and over-rated!!
Good luck!
Pedro
