| Reykjavík Region | Tour or drive Posted: Mon July 24, 2006 06:50 AM UTC
We are trying to decide if we should go on organised tours or hire a car. We want to go to Gullfoss, Geysir and thingvellir one day and Skogafoss, Seljalandsfoss and Vik another. The tours would cost £232 total with Reykjavik Excusrions and a 4x4 £195 total. How much is petrol in Iceland?? The hotel offers free parking.
How hard are these places to find in November and what will the driving conditions be like, will all road be accessable?? Thanks. Clare. |

Petrol is around 130 ISK per liter at self-service station. It won't be hard to find these places and the roads should be OK. Definately take a 4X4 as the weather is unpredictable. All these places are in the same direction from Reykjavík so maybe you could spend a night in Selfoss/Hveragerði or surroundings after the first day. Would save time and gas... You'll miss out on the guide if you go by your self but gain some freedom...

Rent a car!!!! It is much better! We just returned and it was quite ok. We rented a normal toyota with BUDGET...got a good deal on line, they have plenty of discounts!
In November I do not know the conditions of the roads, but around the places you plan to visit they are quite good and paved. Enjoy!

I'm not sure what the road conditions are in november....but besides that DEFINTELY drive on your own. It offers you so much more freedom and you can stop and go as you like. My husband and I drove all around last summer and it was absolutely unbelievable. The scenary was gorgeous and driving on our own made all the difference! It's worth it.
