| Positano | Wedding in Positano Posted: Fri July 21, 2006 12:06 PM UTC
Hi All,
I am looking into getting married in Positano in the San Pietro chapel. I was just wondering if you have to stay in the hotel associated with this chapel or is it possible to book sepatately. The hotel looks lovely but have read some mixed reviews about a few oddities there and the service apparently is not the best! Has anyone recently been married there and if so I would appreciate any info on things like hotels, reception venues, wedding planners, how to book ect! Also the all important question of money and prices would be helpful!! Any details would be greatly appreciated, Thanks |

have you talk first with the parish priest or at least the Bishop whose in charge in Positano?
In Italy works you have to talk with one of them if you want to get married in one church which is not your parish. CEI (Italian Episcopal Conference) raccomends also a little training BEFORE to get married, this usually what they do... Catholic churchs are not like wedding chappels in LV which have agreements with hotels. About prices... getting married in Catholic churchs does not cost. Sure you have to pay for flowers and anythings you want BUT YOU MUST HAVE PRIEST'S PERMISSIONS, also for the music you want to play, many priests are very utmost integrity and they do not allow all kind of music during the Mass, after the Mass you can play Duran-Duran and they would not mind at all. Whatsoever you want to leave at Church is up to you, there is not a "price" (like wedding chappels in LV) if you get married in a Catholic church....

Getting married in Italy, whether in a Catholic Church or not, will require numerous visits to the Italian Embassy near you. You must first obtain a marriage license and I can assure you it is a long, tourturous process. So long and torturous that we gave up and opted to be married at the Vatican. Because the Vatican is considered a Nation/State, Italian law has no bearing on marriages performed there. Of course, one of you must be Catholic and the other must be able to prove they were "baptized." I don't know where you live, but here in the USA, we had to be sponsored by our local parish priest and attend marriage classes. In the end it was worth the effort. Good luck and congratulations.

Hi,
I got married in Positano in May, at the San Pietro Chapel, it was great, see my loooong reply to Positano Bride, further on in this forum for a full description of both the chapel and the wonderful San Pietro Hotel. I pretty much arranged the entire wedding myself, I started off using an Irish based agent, who stated they would arrange everything from travel arrangements to dealing with the local Comunes/ authorities, but they were totally useless. So a few months before the big day, I started doing my own research and struggled through on my own. I'm not going to say it was easy peasy, but with the right contact names and information, it is all perfectly doable and worth for the adventure and all the money you'll save by not having to pay a wedding planner!! (there will be lots of other things to spend money on!!) Your details do not state your nationality, my advice can only relate to UK couples, as I went through the British Embassy to make the legal arrangements. I understand that the process might be quite different if you are a US citizen. If you are UK based, or indeed if anyone else reading this wants advice, please let me know, I'm happy to help. I also have lots of info on Positano Hotels, Reception Venues, Flowers, so even if I can't help with the wedding itself, I can advise on these areas. Thanks Finn x

The restaurant at San Pietro is, unsurprisingly, also a beautiful setting especially if they use the terrace overlooking the sea weather permitting. The prices for a 5 star hotel restaurant we found to be more than in the village but not THAT expensive. If you are looking to have the reception away from the hotel, most of the better restaurants are inland from the main highway.

Hi Kari, I wrote a replay to your VT E mail account, but no everyone reads their e mail....in any case if you still need some info, here is the e mail I sent you, I hope it helps yu and anyone else planning a wedding in POsitano. I didn't ant to put my personal e mail address up, but if you check your VT mail, it's on the mail I sent there.
Hi There, Sorry for the delayed response to your e mail, I haven't been on VT for a while. How exciting that you are getting married in Positano - you made a good choice. The next year will probably be a slightly stressful one for you....but enjoy it. I would love to have it all ahead of me again. I loved my wedding, I wish I could have the day all over again. I am so so sooo glad that I got married in Positano and can't wait to go back to this dreamy place once again. Myself and my husband (still getting used to that lovely word!!) were married in the tiny chapel of San Pietro, up in the hills towards Monte pertuso. We stayed at the Il San Pietro hotel (underneath the chapel) which was hideously expensive ....but worth EVERY penny! We had 22 guests in all. Some stayed at the Villa Tartana (wonderful and comparatively good value) http://www.villalatartana.it/ and others rented villas at La Caravella http://www.lacaravellapositano.com/INGLESE.HTM. We had a pre-wedding dinner the evening before the big day on a private terrace at the Buca De Bacco (perfect) and our wedding reception at Hotel Covo dei Saraceni. I booked all cars/ minibuses with Francesco Marrapese. He was consistently ultra reliable and all his drivers were friendly, professional and well presented. I was in contact with a very helpful lady called Rossella who sorted some beautiful flowers for us, I understand that she can arrange other services too (although she may charge commission). After the wedding day we hired a taxi boat to take us all to Capri, where we spent 5 day in Anacapri at the lovely Villa Eva. A chill out place I found years ago, which I keep returning to. This was lovely, I'm really glad we extended the time there. It was good for our guests who had travelled a long way to be with us, nice that they could stay for a bit longer in Italy, but more affordable than Positano. I'm more than happy to provide any further info that you need. I know what it's like when there are so many decisions to be made and plans to make etc. I wish I had had someone to help!! I can also provide some details and pictures of venues/flowers etc etc. Finally, I'm not sure where you are from, but if you are UK based I can forward you all the details for getting the legal stuff sorted. You do this through the Embassy in Naples, they are quite helpful, I still have all the documents they sent me which outline requirements. Same if you are planning a church wedding. If you would like all this info, it might be better that you e mail me on my regular e mail address, as I can't attach anything to VT e mails. Look forward to hearing from you soon. Regards Jacqueline

Ciao! The San Pietro chapel is not connected in any way to the Hotel Il San Pietro. So you do not have to stay there. The only connection is they share the same name. There are many beautiful hotels and villas or apartments that you could stay in depending on your budget. To be married in the chapel you need to contact the main Parish Church the Chiesa di S. Maria Assunta. There are some great reception venues on the main beach in Positano with gorgeous views. In fact there is so much to consider, flowers and transport options as well, etc. I am a wedding planner who lives in Positano. I sent you an email to your VTmail address. If you would like to talk about the many options available to you in Positano please don't hesitate to contact me at my VT email.
